Medicine & ITMCTR Successfully Held the Second Session of the “TCM SciBridge for Young Scholars”

On the afternoon of September 19, 2025, the second session of the 2025 “TCM SciBridge for Young Scholars”, jointly organized by the China Center for Evidence-Based Traditional Chinese Medicine (CCEBTCM) and ITMCTR, was successfully held at CCEBTCM. The event invited PhD candidates from the Class of 2023 to share academic presentations on the theme of clinical research practice in TCM. More than 20 young researchers and students from the fields of TCM standards and evidence-based medicine participated. Special guest Researcher Gao Lianli from the Graduate School of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences joined the participants for academic discussions and English communication.

PhD candidate Zong Xingyu delivered an English presentation titled “Construction and Application Evaluation of a Knowledge Base for Traditional Chinese Medicine Standards: A Methodological Framework Integrating Knowledge Graphs and Retrieval-Augmented Generation”. He introduced a methodological framework that integrates structured knowledge graphs with retrieval-augmented generation technology to address challenges such as inconsistent terminology across standards, non-uniform measurement criteria, and a lack of supporting tools. This approach aims to enhance the collaborative application and governance of TCM standards. Following his talk, faculty mentors engaged in in-depth questioning and provided constructive suggestions regarding research design and database development.

PhD candidate Chen Lin presented in English on “Drug Repositioning of Chinese Patent Medicines Integrating TCM Theory and Pharmacological Mechanisms”. Focusing on the issue of certain Chinese patent medicines whose unclear positioning hinders their clinical value, she integrated network pharmacology, pharmacodynamic experiments, and multi-omics technologies to systematically analyze pharmacological mechanisms and provide scientific evidence for clinical repositioning. She further proposed a research framework of “TCM theory mining-comparative analysis of similar products -pharmacological mechanism studies”, offering efficient repositioning strategies for varieties of Chinese patent medicines with a weak evidence base. The mentoring team discussed her research methodology in detail and proposed suggestions for improvement.

Amid a warm and lively atmosphere, the event concluded with a group photo capturing this memorable moment. While this session came to a successful close, our journey of exploration continues. We sincerely welcome more outstanding young scholars to join the English Academic Training Program. Let us sail forward together with vigor and determination!
